Hey everyone! I’ve been having a lot of fun creating monthly themed roundup-style posts and April’s post around nurturing your creativityjust might be in the running for my favorite so far.
ICYMI, I’ll be hosting an Art Hour later this month where we’ll gather to do art separately…together (no pressure to be on camera or talk! Come as you are.) Be sure to register here.
In the meantime, I want to hear: what artsy, creative, crafty things are you up to (or are feeling inspired by) this month?
I’ll start: In addition to the Wheel 101 pottery class I took last weekend, I also refashioned a too-short sleeveless wrap dress I thrifted ages ago into a cute wrap top with sleeves—just in time for this glorious spring weather.
April is National Poetry Month and I've jumped on the NaPoWriMo bandwagon, aiming to write 30 poems in 30 days. (I've reframed the challenge for myself as "30 Days of Bad Poems" to take some pressure off 😅) Haven't missed a day yet, and I've been really pleasantly surprised that a handful of pieces actually have some teeth.
I'm so wildly impressed that you're going so strong with this challenge! We like teethy poems! If you're feeling extra brave, feel free to drop one of the teethier poems in the comments (only if you want to!) :P
Update: In the post, I mentioned I was going to a musical theater jazz dance class last week. As someone who loves to perform and regularly listens to showtunes, I was thinking this class would be right up my alley.
Spoiler alert: it was not!
I've taken many a dance class over the years, but this one was just plain weird. People were nice and everything, and there is always going to be some awkwardness and discomfort at trying something new, but the vibe was just not it for me. Not only did it just not feel right, but we spent about 20% of the time on warmups, 75% on random across the floors (to a Dolly Parton and Pitbull mix of 9 to 5.....) and maybe 5% on a routine, which was what I was most excited about. Womp womp.
Anyway, I share this because I think it's important to name that pursuing your creative interests doesn't always pan out, not just in the way you think it will (because that's often the case) but also just in general! It doesn't mean I won't try another dance class another time or that that studio is bad or whatever—it just means that particular class was not it for me. And it's easy to get frustrated or discouraged by a misalignment or by mistakes or whatever isn't clicking. It's easy to make it mean something about you or about the season you're in. But it truly is a very natural and normal part of being an artist/creative!

Also I still need to see pictures of this dress!!
Well it's a shirt now! But I'll snap a pic when I wear it soon—just don't look too closely at the hem, as it's definitely not even haha

Nevertheless, we persist!
